Anchor Introduction for our news report:

Hello, I'm George and this is Bikini-Bottom studios. Many student protests have broken out at different schools across the country after a video went viral on the social media platform TikTok. On the 24th of February, a protest broke out over toilet rules at Penrice Academy, St Austell.  We will now go to our reporter Poppy with more information about this story.

Main Report for our news story:

Thank you George. Protests broke out at Penrice Academy on the 24th February following the introduction of new toilet rules. these rules stated that students were no longer allowed to go to the toilet during lesson time. This angered both students and parents and some took to Facebook to express their outrage. Kim Bailey wrote: "Any human, child or adult should be allowed to use the toilets at any time." The issue of periods was brought up, and to combat this, the school introduced  red "period passes". These passes involve female students collecting a card and showing it to their teacher if they need to use the bathroom. The school stated that this rule was put in place to minimise disruption, however parents have called it"controlling and archaic". Students are facing extreme consequences including permanent exclusion because of their behaviour during this protest. Some may say however, that the protest was successful, as the school later held sessions for their students to talk to their tutors individually to express any concerns they may have in a calm and civilised manner.
