Genre - A style, especially in the arts, that involves a particular set of characteristics.

Hybrid - A mixture of 2 or more genres.

Sub-genres - Categories that genres can be divided into.

 They all use the colour palette of blues and whites
 They have quite bold titles and are at the bottom or the middle 
If there is a credit block it is on the bottom
They are all by Disney and therefore say disney above the title
Some have the actor names at the top 


Maybe Disney films because there is a lot of romance and comedy but also a strong storyline and popular characters.

Elements of a fantasy film:
Uses magic and supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme or setting
Hero or Villain who has powers
Powerful wizards, witches and supernatural characters
A central theme of fantasy films is Good vs Evil
Sometimes set in non realistic places

LO: To implement genre codes and conventions

They were set in mystical places such as Oz and Wonderland

There was a good vs evil storyline 

In some there was a love story

Very colourful outfits and decor and places

Magic spells and things that are magical 

There was music playing in the background 

In some there was a narrator summarising the story

They used wide shots to show the setting of where the characters were and what they were doing 

They used close ups in some of the dancing scenes in beauty and the beast and cinderella

They showed important scenes that summarised the story

Recipe for a Fantasy film trailer:

Ingredients:

  • A working young adult (later to become a princess)
  • A Prince who is cursed 
  • A spoilt villain who wants everything
  • A magical object which is the key to end the curse
  • Slow and fast paced cuts depending on the scene (dancing scene slow however some fast when showing a lot of scenes at once)
  • A palace
  • Romance (hate to love storyline)
Method:

  1. The prince is cursed by the spoilt villain 
  2. The cursed prince is left with a magical object which can break the curse
  3. The spoilt villain wants the young adult to love him but she gets captured by the cursed prince
  4. She helps the prince break the curse 
  5. She begins to love him after realising that he was this way because of everything he had been through
  6. After the curse is broken they get married

 Tuesday 4th October 2022 LO: To analyse a media text using Media Language They have chosen to use a medium long shot for this poster so that you can see his hands as he is wearing gloves and has a gun which shows some connotations. They have used this shot so that you can see his facial expression clearly whereas with a long shot it wouldn't be as noticeable. His clothing connotes that he is on a mission as he looks as if he is going to do something serious which is also shown by his facial expression. He is wearing gloves showing he doesn't want to be found out by anyone. He might not want his fingerprints on anything showing he is a very secretive character.  Tuesday 20th June 2023 LO:  To identify the features on a magazine front cover; to explore genre codes and conventions. Do Now: Food Magazines: (code and conventions) Shot type - A lot of them use close up of food and specific recipes that people will see and be interested in. Colour Palette - The magazines use light neutral colours. Font Styles - Simple font styles almost looking as if handwritten. Sub-Genre: (music magazines) Rock  Pop Heavy Metal Boy band Country Rap Electronic Jazz  Rock music:   The magazines use a lot of black which shows it is a rock magazine. They also use a dark colour palette which is usually black, white and another colour. They use a close up of the band/artist that the main cover line is about.
