Magazine Front Covers

LO: To identify the features on a magazine front cover; to explore genre codes and conventions.
Do Now:
Shot type - A lot of them use close up of food and specific recipes that people will see and be interested in.
Colour Palette - The magazines use light neutral colours.
Font Styles - Simple font styles almost looking as if handwritten.
Sub-Genre: (music magazines)
- Rock
- Pop
- Heavy Metal
- Boy band
- Country
- Rap
- Electronic
- Jazz
Rock music:
The magazines use a lot of black which shows it is a rock magazine. They also use a dark colour palette which is usually black, white and another colour. They use a close up of the band/artist that the main cover line is about.
Baking/cooking:
Colour palette - Neutral colours where some link in with the main image. Also uses a lot of gold and red.
Main images - They show some of the most popular recipes and desserts shown within the magazine.
Typography - They use simple fonts as if handwritten and don't use that many capital letters especially in the title.
Cover Lines - Includes other popular recipes shown in the magazine. They also have a rough estimate of how many recipes in the magazine.
Target Audience - Young adults (20s to 30s) because of the colour palette and because most of the main images look professional and somewhat hard to recreate.
